The Eberly Pavilion is a joint venture between Uniontown Hospital and UPMC Cancer Centers. Here specialists from both healthcare systems team up to offer you the most advanced cancer care available today.

At the Eberly Pavilion, you'll have access to the latest in diagnostics and radiation therapy, including IMRT and PET/CT Scanning.

IMRT stands for Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy, and is a state-of-the-art treatment that allows specialists to deliver radiation to a tumor while sparing nearly all the healthy tissue around it.

PET/CT is a combination of two types of imaging that helps doctors understand the extent and exact location of cancer, so they can treat the disease earlier and more accurately.

UPMC Cancer Centers medical oncology services provide a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating cancer.  UPMC Cancer Centers oncologists work closely with other cancer specialists including surgical oncologists, pathologists, diagnostic radiologists, and nuclear medicine and radiation oncologists to develop an individualized comprehensive treatment plan for each patient.

Patients also receive other critical support services including cancer education, nutrition and genetic counseling, psychological support, and interaction with our oncology social workers.  The patient's primary care physician, who often knows the patient best, is an integral part of this multidisciplinary effort.

UPMC Cancer Centers oncologists have extensive expertise in providing the full range of cancer treatments that include standard chemotherapy and biological therapy regimens.  In addition, UPMC Cancer Centers offers innovative cancer therapies through clinical trials.  Patients may access a wide variety of clinical trials including National Cancer Institute cooperative group trials, pharmaceutical company trials, and novel investigator-initiated studies offered only at UPMC Cancer Centers.

Other special services available at UPMC Cancer Centers are offered through the Stem Cell Transplantation Program, the largest regional provider of stem cell transplantation services in western Pennsylvania.  This accredited program offers both allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplants.  Each treatment is tailored to the patient's needs and can be offered on an outpatient or inpatient basis.

The Stem Cell Transplantation Program provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary outpatient services for patients with graft-versus-host disease and for both acute and long-term follow-up of allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplant recipients.

 Afaq Ahmad, MD

Afaq Ahmad, MD, is a medical oncologist at UPMC Cancer Center, Uniontown.  Dr. Ahmad is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine.  He received his medical degree from the University of Peshawar, Khyber Medical College, in Peshawar, Pakistan.  He completed his residency in internal medicine at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey and a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

 Flavia Esteve-Kostov, MD

Flavia Esteve-Kostov, MD, is a medical oncologist and hematologist at UPMC Cancer Center, Uniontown.  Board-certified in internal medicine, she received her medical degree from Escola Baiana de Medicina e Saude Publica in Bahia, Brazil.  She completed a residency in internal medicine at Allegheny General Hospital and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at UPMC in Pittsburgh.

Sajid M. Peracha, MD

Sajid M. Peracha, MD, is a medical oncologist at UPMC Cancer Center, Uniontown.  Dr. Peracha is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine.  He received his medical degree from Sind Medical College in Karachi, India.  He completed his residency at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. and a fellowship at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y. and University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and completed a bone marrow transplant fellowship at the University of Florida, Gainsville, Florida.

Thanks to Uniontown Hospital's partnership with UPMC Cancer Centers, people in this region can access these cures, without leaving the community. Today, new protocols are being developed to treat cancers that were previously untreatable. And Uniontown Hospital patients are in a position to take advantage of that.
