Bronchoscopy: Clearing the Airways
Bronchoscopy is another form of endoscopy used to examine the larger airways, the trachea and bronchi. During this procedure, your doctor will insert a flexible bronchoscope through your mouth or nose, then slowly pass it downward.
In addition to getting a good close-up view of your airways, your doctor may use a small attachment on the end of the bronchoscope to dislodge a foreign object, remove secretions or take a tissue biopsy for further lab testing.
Conditions Which May Be Identified:
- Lung tumors
- Bleeding in airways
- Foreign bodies in airways
- Tuberculosis
