What is MRI?
MRI is a safe, high-tech diagnostic procedure that uses a magnetic field (instead of an X-ray) to produce very detailed pictures of your internal organs. This magnetic field, aimed at a particular part of your body, safely penetrates the tissue and goes all the way into the molecules, causing certain atoms to give off signals that can be read by a computer. The computer uses this information to create pictures of cross-sectional "slices" of that part of the body, which can then be viewed on a screen by your doctor.
