Living With Diabetes
In conjunction with local physicians, nutritionists and counselors, Fayette Home Care and Hospice is now sponsoring a bi-monthly Adult Diabetic Support Group for diabetics, their caregivers and their families. During these sessions, diabetic education nurses Sue Shearer and Mary Ann Rider discuss how to better manage your diabetes through diet and nutrition, improve your self-care skills and ultimately feel better about living with diabetes. This group meets on the second Tuesday of every other month from 6:30 PM - 8 PM in the Heritage Conference Room at Uniontown Hospital. Sue and Mary Ann also provide in-home education to help patients learn to administer insulin, manage glucose levels with proper nutrition and exercise and understand the long-term implications of the disease. "We stay current with the latest research in diabetes so we can pass this on to our patients," explains Sue. "We can also act as patient advocates, helping them to obtain glucose monitors at reduced costs, for example." For more information, contact Fayette Home Care and Hospice at (724) 439-1610.
