Unprecedented growth sparks nursing opportunity

Uniontown Hospital will launch a Friends and Family Sign-on Special in July and August for direct patient care RNs, as the facility looks to boost staffing levels during unprecedented growth.

The $5,000 sign-on bonus is eligible to any registered nurse that lives in Fayette County, or that went to high school in Fayette County. The Friends and Family 60-day Special is in addition to the current sign-on bonus of $5,000 already offered by Uniontown Hospital to direct patient care RNs.

“This essentially gives nurses in our community the opportunity to receive up to $10,000 in bonuses for joining our team at Uniontown Hospital,” Chief Nursing Officer Betty Ann Rock said. “Those bonuses do not include our student loan assistance program, which is also available to our incoming RNs. This is a very rare opportunity.”

Eligible RNs will receive $2,500 up front and $2,500 after a 90-day introductory period is completed.

“This special sign-on is reflective of the unparalleled growth we are experiencing as a community hospital,” CEO Steve Handy said. “The demand for exceptional nurses is very high and with our departments serving the needs of those that depend on us most, this is a great way for our area nurses to join a growing organization and invest their time and talents in their own backyard.”

The bonus was implemented by hospital executives to help meet the demand for bedside nurses as the hospital has experienced increased inpatient volumes over the last year.

That, coupled with the finalization of renovations to patient units that have moved the facility to offer only private rooms for inpatients, sparked the idea for the incentive introduced to recruit the best the community has to offer.

“We are putting out the call to our local nurses – our friends, neighbors and family – that if you live here or if you went to school here, you can find an exceptional employment opportunity right at home,” Handy said.  

The Friends and Family Special applies only to applications received in July and August.
