New components to aid in visitor comfort

Visiting patients in the hospital is an important part of the recovery and support process.

Uniontown Hospital encourages loved ones to visit their family members and provide that support by being close at hand during surgeries or hospital stays. But hospital administrators also know that spending the day at the hospital can be a burden and have taken steps to try and make your time in at Uniontown Hospital the best it can be.

Beginning May 4, the hospital Nutrition Services team will be extending the hours of the Garden Café located on the hospital’s main floor to offer more time for patients and staff to grab a bite to eat. The café will now be open from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, allowing for five additional hours daily to meet the varied schedules of visitors and staff. The café will also remain open on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon and will now be open from 7 a.m. to noon on Sundays.

“We wanted to give our visitors and the staff a chance to eat when it would be most beneficial to their schedules,” Nutrition Services Director John Baldwin said. “This will give visitors another option for getting something quick without having to leave the hospital.” 

Additionally, the hospital will begin providing complementary bottled water in eight waiting rooms throughout the hospital, including all inpatient waiting areas as well as the Emergency Department and the Family Beginnings Birthing Center.  

Of these eight comfort stations, five will also offer discounted coffee via Keurig vending machines.

“We know that hours can seem like days when waiting on news of the condition of a loved one,” CEO Steve Handy said. “This is just another small way that we want to make those long moments as comfortable as possible for those who chose to have their family’s care with us.”
